Common questions
Why does the app need camera access?
Muddy Waters uses the camera to scan paint tube barcodes and capture colours for paint-mixing suggestions.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Images are processed on your device and are not stored or uploaded.
Do I need an account to use the app?
No account is required to use Muddy Waters.
How do I select colours to mix?
Each colour in your palette has a small selector circle. Tap on that circle to select or unselect it. Tap the X button in the bottom right corner to unselect all colours at once.
Is my usage tracked?
The app collects general information about paints and palettes and which buttons are clicked. This informaiton is not tied to you or your device in any way and simply helps us understand what paints and new features to focus on next. Usage is tracked against a randomly generated palette ID. See below how you can delete all info in the app and reset the palette ID if you wish. Premium and Pro license data is help by Apple and Google and the developer doesn't not have access to who you are, even as a paying customer. Only your country and device type (iOS, Android, etc) is captured against the usage data to help us find bugs and improve the product.
When I request a new paint to be added, how long does it take?
Adding a new colour requires me to collect the spectrographic data for that paint. Many are available but some are quite hard to get hold of. However, when requesting a new colour make sure you take a picture of the tube in good light and select the colour of the paint from the picture. This will allow you to use the colour in RGB mode. Once we add the full colour, it will simply start working at high fidelity. You won't have to do anything. New colours will usually appear in the next app update.
Can I delete my user data from the app?
Yes. Even though we don't track you individually as a person, the app does store palette information on your device. By going to Settings and tapping "Wipe App Data & Reset User", all the app's data about your paints is wiped and a new pallet ID number is generated as if you were a brand new user of the app. Any past usage information is not updated to the new palette ID.
